Review Bvlgari BLV Pour Homme

Almost a year ago, a Canadian perfume blogger was kind enough to send me lots of perfume samples – including a Bvlgari Blv mini. I ignored Blv because I’m prejudiced — against blue perfume bottles and blue perfume juice; when I see “blue” associated with fragrance, I think of awful ozone and marine fragrance notes (yes, I’ve written about my blue phobia for years; you may yawn). I was fooled by Blv, or simply a fool, because the fragrance has nothing to do with ‘water’ or ‘fresh air’ — it’s a cologne built around a ginger (galangal) note and also contains tobacco flower, gray teak, cardamom, gingko leaves, juniper berries and sandalwood.

Review Bvlgari Omnia Green

Omnia Green Jade is the third flanker to 2005′s Omnia by Bvlgari (it follows  and Omnia Amethyste), and it was reportedly “inspired by the idea of an early spring morning”*. I’m a fan of the Omnia franchise — Omnia Amethyste left me cold, but I love the original Omnia and “really like” Omnia Crystalline — so I was looking forward to smelling the latest entry in the series. That it was geared young (“…the fragrance is aimed at a younger, more contemporary target consumer”**) was a little worrisome, since we all know that “young” in perfume-speak can sometimes translate as “candied” or “not for the discerning”.

Turns out Omnia Green Jade is something else entirely: it’s the lightest and freshest of them all, although since some people have trouble smelling Omnia and/or Omnia Crystalline at all, your mileage may vary. It’s a wearable, safe-for-the-office, casual (and not at all feminine: anyone could wear it) fragrance, but it’s not what I’d call distinctive, in fact, it’s rather hard to describe other than “fresh”, “green”, “clean”. It’s crisp and citrus-y in the opening, but it softens rapidly. There is a bit of nutty warmth in the pale, woody-musky dry down (the notes: green mandarin, spring water, white peony, nasturtium, pear blossom, jasmine, pistachio, white woods and musk).

Review Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline

Bvlgari introduced the original Omnia fragrance in 2003. Omnia is a spicy oriental by perfumer Alberto Morillas, and marries spices with trendy gourmand notes like tea, chocolate and almond while managing to be neither heavy nor overly foody. It smells like a nicely spiced wood scent, very sheer, very modern. It is one of my favorites from Bvlgari, and makes a great, nearly year-round woody comfort fragrance.

Omnia got its first flanker in 2005, with Omnia Crystalline. Like many recent flanker scents — Calvin Klein Euphoria Blossom, Prada Tendre, among others — it was designed for the Asian market, where lighter, fresher fragrances are the thing. And it did very well, apparently “reaching number one in Japan and South Korea”. (via cosmeticsint.co.uk, 2/9/2007)

Review Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste

Omnia Amethyste is the third and most recent fragrance in the Omnia line from Bvlgari, following the original Omnia (2003) and Omnia Crystalline (2005). All three fragrances were created by perfumer Alberto Morillas, and all share the love-it-or-hate-it interlocking circle bottle design. The notes for Amethyste include green sap, pink grapefruit, iris, rose, heliotrope and solar woods.

Review Bvlgari Pour Femme

It was interesting to read the various opinions on Bvlgari as a fragrance house in the comments to Kevin’s article about their Aqva line for men. I think of Bvlgari as one of the better mainstream brands. No, the fragrances aren’t all wildly innovative, but to my nose, they’re all (ok, mostly) so nicely done. A perfect example: Bvlgari Pour Femme.

Bvlgari launched Pour Femme in 1994. It was the line’s second fragrance, following Eau Parfumee au Thé Vert, and it was originally known just as “Bvlgari”. They introduced it slowly in the United States, restricting it initially to about 40 stores, and I can’t resist quoting this oh-if-you-only-knew statement from a Chanel representative (a Chanel subsidiary was in charge of the US distribution):

We think that things are becoming a little too fast, easy and gimmicky in the fragrance business. Perhaps the best way to cut through the clutter is to be more quiet and tasteful about a launch. (via Women’s Wear Daily, 6/17/1994)

Review Bvlgari Black

Bvlgari Black fragrance bottle

Black was launched by Bvlgari, the Italian jewelry line, in 1998. It was created by perfumer Annick Menardo, and the fragrance notes are black tea, rosewood, bergamot, cedar, oakmoss, vanilla, amber, sandalwood, and musk.

Review Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine

Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine (2008)

Bvlgari Aqva Pour Homme Marine cologne for men

Aqva Pour Homme Marine contains notes of neroli bigarade, grapefruit, posidonia, sap, rosemary flower, and white cedar wood. A Bvlgari rep’s quote in Cosmetics International regarding Aqva Pour Homme Marine made me frown: It will definitely appeal to younger men and women, especially in Asia”(11/2/07). We all know what young men and women like: “fresh” and “clean” and rather “simple” fragrances (I’m generalizing, of course) and it is constantly mentioned in perfume news that many Asian perfume customers don’t like to smell of “perfume” at all — they appreciate fragrances that are barely noticeable.

Review – Bvlgari Extreme

Fragrance House : Bvlgari
Fragrance Name : Extreme
Gender : Men
Official Site : http://www.bulgari.com/

Review :
